Is it still worth it to pay for a cable TV?

Are you the one who is considering cutting the cord and evaluating the pros and cons of having a cable TV service? Well, the cord-cutting when it comes to cable TV services can turn out to be messy for some. For the reason that to watch all your favorite channels and shows you will be needing a streaming service but still you will be lacking somewhere and somethings will always remain missing for some.

I would prefer to have cable TV. I find it more reliable and quite simplified. It is more convenient and hassles free to get to watch whatever you want to at the comfort of your home or while on the go via my phone using the free TV App that you get after subscribing to the cable service. Or get a list of content you have recorded by just pressing, ‘list’.

Though, still, some people feel this whole fuss after cutting the cable is worth it in terms of getting relief from paying fat bills of the cable. For me, cutting the cord would be a worthy decision only if I get such a mechanism as an alternative. I think the alternative should be :

A website where an account can be created and a user can sign up easily.  Or any app is needed to be created for smart TVs and smartphones. Direct access to the media is also required to make it a better experience. Not to forget, various cable service providing companies are doing this already.

A user should be able to make a personalized package consisting of what channels they would like to watch. Charges would depend on the number of channels they have used. A channel line up similar to what Spectrum offers as the silver package would make a decent deal.

Moreover, I would like to get all the programs of my choice recorded on the device I have logged in from. There should be an option named as ‘Cloud DVR* to record my favourite shows. Also, I would want to be able to record the content into my choice of drive that can be watched through any device through which I login to my account.

There should be a guest mode option as well. So that one can get access to their package even from their friend’s phone.

I believe, such a platform would make things a lot smoother by assembling and giving access to everything in one place. This fuss-free platform can become a valid reason to cut the cable for many. A platform where the user has to pay for what he chooses to watch – where the user can get everything of their choice in one place – where the shows can be recorded, watched and replayed whenever the user wants to access them.

Further, one more plus point to add is that as the subscription will be based on creating an account; one will also add local channels in the list on such platforms. Such an alternative will be convincing enough for me to get the cable connection cut – which is not obtainable at the moment.

Having said all this, cutting or not cutting the cable depends on the following factors :

  • Which shows do you like to watch?
  • What channels do you prefer to watch the most?
  • How much can you wait for the next episode?
  • Can you wait for sometimes even a year to watch any season online?
  • Will you not mind stopping being able to watch live shows or episodes?
  • Are you someone who likes to watch CNN, MSNBC, etc. ?
  • Are you okay with having some episodes of your shows on one platform while other episodes are on another platform?
  • Are you a local channel lover?

Final Thoughts:

The aforementioned discussion reestablishes the fact that it is a personal choice, after all, the budget, family members, and preferences of each member of the house and so many unsaid reasons to form the final decision. Or, perhaps, just sticking to one whether the cable TV service, the trending live streamings these days, or a blend of both. Furthermore, a few questions raised above are one of the few factors that are going to influence the purchase and making the decision worth it or invalid.
