About Dolby Vision
Dolby Vision is an enhanced high-dynamic-range (HDR) image technology developed by Dolby, which provides more vivid highlights and a greater variety of colors than either standard SDR or basic HDR formats. Since it utilizes dynamic metadata and supports up to 12-bit color space, Dolby Vision dynamically adjusts and enhances each scene, as well as each frame, for compatible TVs, displays, and Windows PCs. This enables more precise contrast and authentic detail for users viewing supported movie titles, television programs, and HDR video content.

To resolve the issue, when playing HDR Video or Dolby Vision content on Pot Player, VLC Player, or other HDR players, you need to install certain extensions on your PC. HDR 10 movies or TV series are generally created using the Dolby Vision technology. To play this content, you need the Dolby Vision Windows extension and HEVC extensions. FAQ ON Dolby Vision
To make use of Dolby Vision you’ll require an HDR-ready monitor capable of displaying Dolby Vision (via HDMI) as well as a graphics card and appropriate cable in addition to a copy of windows 10 or 11 which also has HDR capabilities. Also required will be either Dolby Vision hardware or software to decode the Dolby Vision content.
First go into Settings → System → Display, choose the HDR-capable monitor you want to use, check the box for “HDR” and then check the “HDR Settings”. If you have the option, toggle the switch to “Use Dolby Vision Mode”, once this is done, start up the Windows HDR Calibration tool to tweak the brightness and color of your display.
Typically the cause of an issue is due to HDR being turned off, missing HEVC/Dolby extensions, non-HDR displays, or old/obsolete GPU drivers. Some streaming apps only show Dolby Vision if Windows HDR AND the user’s display fully comply with all of the app’s requirements.
Toggle “Use Dolby Vision mode” on or off and adjust the HDR sliders within Windows to see which one will look best on the user’s screen. Updating Windows, updating the GPU drivers, and updating the firmware for the user’s monitor, then adjusting the HDR calibration, usually resolves issues such as dim, washed-out, or unstable video playback.
Go into Settings, then System, followed by Display/HDR, toggle “hdr mode” OFF, this allows Windows to fall back to using HDR10. If the bugs are still present after disabling Dolby Vision, try to leave HDR on but update the drivers/app or roll back a recent problematic update as a last resort.
