The most common codes are Samsung 5791 → 5801 → 3301, LG 6021 → 0001 → 5511, Vizio 5631 → 5561 → 5611, Sony 1071 → 5811 → 5321, TCL 5961 → 6031 → 6171, and Hisense 6161 → 1651 → 6171. For any Roku-powered TV, the master code is 6171 (it works on TCL, Hisense, Onn, Insignia, Philips, JVC and RCA Roku TV alike). For a GE TV itself, start with 4921 → 0141 → 0191. When the red light blinks twice or never turns off, that code is wrong, so move to the next one.

How to Program GE Universal Remote

GE remotes are the easiest universal remotes to program, and they all use the same two methods. Have the red light on the power key as your guide, and keep the device turned on while you program.

Method 1: Program with Remote Codes

1. Turn on your TV and point the remote at it for the whole setup.
2. Press and hold the Setup button until the red light on the Power key turns on and stays on.
3. Press and release the TV key (the red light stays on).
4. Enter the 4-digit code for your TV from the list above.
5. If the code is right, the red light turns off. Test power, volume and channels.
6. If the red light blinks twice or never goes off, try the next code in the list.

Method 2: Program without Codes (Auto Code Search)

1. Power up the TV using its own button.
2. Press and hold the Setup button until the red light on the Power key turns on.
3. Press and release the TV key.
4. Press and release the Power key on the remote every 5 seconds until the TV switches off.
5. Power the TV back on with its own button.
6. Press and release the Channel Up key every 3 seconds until the TV switches off again.
7. Press the TV key to save the code, then test volume and channels.

If the TV switches off during the Power step but never reacts to Channel Up, switch it back on manually and keep pressing Channel Up until it turns off one more time, pairing happens on that second power-off.

How to Reset a GE Universal Remote

When keys stop responding or programming gets stuck, reset the remote first. Hold the Setup button until the red light stays on, then press Mute followed by 0. The red light blinks twice and the remote clears all codes, ready for a fresh start.

GE Universal Remote Codes for Other Devices

A GE remote controls up to eight different devices so that one four digit code system covers DVD players, Blu-ray players, cable boxes and satellite receivers. Switch to matching device codes (DVD, CBL or SAT) and enter the code for the device you want to pair it with in the same way you would for a TV.

GE Universal Remote Models

All GE universal remotes belong to the CL family, and the sticker inside the battery compartment tells you which one you hold. The lists above and the programming steps work across the whole family, so the only thing that changes between models is how many devices they remember.

• CL3 – three-device model, controls TV plus two other devices.
• CL4 – four-device model, the most common GE universal remote.
• CL5 – five-device model with extra device keys.
• CL6 – six-device model; some CL6 units stretch to eight devices with one button repurposed.

Troubleshooting

• Volume is dead after a successful setup. The code matched part of the TV, not all of it. Re-enter setup and try the next code in the list, or use the no-code search below.
• Your remote has no Setup button and no number keys. That is a one-device GE remote, usually a Bluetooth model, and it pairs differently: hold the device key and the power key together, then follow the pairing prompt on the TV itself. Every CL-series multi-device remote has a Setup key and a red light.
• A 6-device remote rejects every TV code. Skip the code list and run the no-code search method instead, it scans all code banks automatically.
• Pairing with a Roku stick or box, not a Roku TV. Streaming players have no TV codes, so use the no-code method with the Play key. Roku TVs are different: enter 6171 directly.
• Auto-search: the TV switches off, but Channel Up never stops it. The classic fix: switch the TV back on with its own power button, then press Channel Up repeatedly until it turns off a second time, the pairing completes after that second power-off.
• Input key does nothing. Press the TV key once (no light on it), then press Input. Make sure the device you want to watch is already switched on.
• Volume now controls the streaming stick. You programmed the remote to the stick last and it stayed. Re-program the TV key with the TV codes, and remember every device key holds its own volume zone.
• No code found for a provider box (like Cox Contour). Run the code search in CBL or SAT mode, or check the provider help page, most operators publish their universal codes there.
• Sony Blu-ray player. Press the DVD key, then enter a Sony DVD code (6006, 6049, 6095…) from the DVD table below, instead of a TV code.
