RCA Universal Remotes are designed for controlling multiple different devices including TV, DVD players, VCRs, cable and satellite boxes and other equipment as well. Some models are even able to control up to eight distinct devices. Remotes range from compact 2 device model RCR313BE to 8 device RCRTBL06BE which includes dedicated buttons for streaming. The RCA Universal Remote Codes below work across the whole RCR line. You can use them with the RCR503BE, RCR414BHE, RCRTBL06BE, and every other model listed further down. Whether you own a smart TV or an older CRT, the list covers every major brand sold in the market. Programming takes less than two minutes once you have the right code in hand.

The most common codes are Samsung 2051 → 3993 → 0178, LG 2731 → 2358 → 3397, Vizio 1758 → 3758 → 2707, Sony 0810, TCL 2434 → 4398, and Hisense 3519 → 2183. For any Roku-powered TV (Onn Roku, RCA Roku, TCL Roku, Insignia Roku, Hisense Roku), the master code is 44211. For an RCA TV itself, start with 2746 → 2932 → 2434. When the light blinks twice, that code is wrong, so move to the next one.

How to Program RCA Universal Remote

No matter which RCA universal remote you own, the steps stay the same. Have the power light on the remote as your guide, and keep the device turned on while you program.

Method 1: Program with Remote Codes

1. Insert fresh batteries in the RCA remote and power up your TV.
2. Press and hold the TV key while pointing the remote at the TV. Hold any other device key if you are programming a DVD, cable box, or another device.
3. Release the device key once the Power key lights up.
4. While the Power light is on, enter the pairing code for your device from the list above.
5. When the correct code is entered, the Power key light turns off. Test the functions to confirm.

If the power light blinks twice while you enter the code, the code is incorrect. Try the next code in the list until the light turns off.

Method 2: Program without Codes (Auto Search)

1. Turn the TV on and point the remote at it for the whole process.
2. Press and hold the TV key, then also press and hold the Power key until the LED turns on, and release both.
3. Press the Play key and wait 5 seconds. If the TV does not turn off, press Play again and keep repeating every 5 seconds.
4. Once the TV turns off, press the Reverse key and wait 2 seconds. If the TV does not turn back on, press Reverse again and repeat.
5. When the TV turns back on, immediately press Stop to save the code.

Method 3: Program with the Code Search Key

1. Keep the device turned on and press and hold the Code Search key until the indicator light turns on.
2. Press and release the device key you are programming, for example the TV key.
3. Enter the code manually from the list, or from the manual that came with the remote.
4. After the correct code, the indicator light turns off. If it flashes twice, the code is wrong; keep trying.

Method 4: Program with Auto Codes (Code Search)

1. Turn on the device, then press and hold the Code Search key until the LED turns on.
2. Press and release the device key. The indicator light blinks once and stays lit.
3. Press and release the Power key repeatedly until the device turns off. This can take up to 200 presses on older models.
4. As soon as the device turns off, press Enter within 4 seconds to save the code. The LED turns off.

How to Reset an RCA Universal Remote

If programming goes wrong or keys stop responding, reset the remote before trying again. On most RCR models, hold the device key and press the Power key three times; the LED blinks and the remote clears. If that does not work, pop the batteries out and hold the Power key for 30 to 60 seconds, then reinsert the batteries.

Troubleshooting

1. Your Roku TV ignores the code. Onn, RCA, TCL, Insignia, Hisense and Philips Roku models accept 44211; try it before anything else.
2. Channel up/down or back button is dead after programming. The code partially matches your TV. Move to the next code in the list, or run a full auto-search so the remote scans every stored code.
3. Volume key stopped working mid-setup. You likely left the remote in programming mode (the power light stays on). Finish or exit setup mode, then press a few keys; if nothing responds, reset the remote first.
4. The remote has no power light at all. That is a basic RCA TV remote, not a universal one. Every RCA universal model has an LED indicator at the top, so look for the code-search or setup key.
5. Streaming shortcuts do nothing on a Vizio or Roku TV. The first code you tried probably lacks streaming-key mapping. Use 44211, or cycle auto-search until the home stream button works.
6. Combo TV with built-in DVD player. TV codes control the TV, but the DVD half needs its own programming. Press the DVD key and repeat the same steps with a DVD code.
7. Code rejected but the brand is listed. Blinking light twice means a wrong code. Codes differ between 4-digit and 5-digit remotes, so try the other length, and remember RCA models remember only the last-entered code per device key.
8. Everything programmed but power still does not work. Point the remote straight at the device, replace the batteries with fresh ones, and re-enter the code. A weak battery is the classic reason a fresh setup stops responding.
