How to Install the Universal Realtek HD Audio Driver
Before a new driver is installed, older Realtek drivers have to be completely removed because Windows prefers to use the one with best hardware ID match even if it is older and full removal procedure removes both classic HDA setup and newer UAD setup.
Remove Old Realtek Drivers First
- Check Apps & Features for a Realtek entry left by the official setup and uninstall it – but do not restart yet.
- If no such entry exists, run the package setup once and answer No when it offers to install the generic driver; it only needs to register the component.
- Open Services as administrator, find Windows Audio and stop it.
- Start DriverStore Explorer (RAPR), look under Extensions, Software Components and Sound, video and game controllers for entries by Realtek, and delete the ones tied to the audio driver.
- If you used the official uninstaller earlier, disconnect from the Internet and reboot the machine once.
Run the Universal Realtek HD Audio Driver Setup
- Extract the Unofficial-Realtek-UAD-generic-6.0.9771.1.7z archive to any folder.
- Right-click setup and choose Run as administrator.
- Let it finish to the end – the installer restarts your PC or Laptop on its own.
- Unzip RealtekAudioControl_1.52.355.0-offline.7z and run setup as administrator to install the Realtek Audio Console App offline.
The installer is a single-command installer: extract the archive, then run setup by right-clicking and running it as administrator. Let it install by itself; Windows Audio restarts automatically, so you do not have to reboot it yourself.
Troubleshooting
- No sound after install – check the Sound, video and game controllers Drive in Device Manager; the driver should read Realtek(R) Audio. Disable and re-enable the device if it shows a warning icon.
- Realtek Audio Console will not open – use the offline package from this release instead of the Microsoft Store version.
- Windows reverted the driver – block the automatic driver update for the audio device or run the force updater once.
- Missing special effects – OEM-only sound enhancements are the one thing the generic package does not promise; base audio stays fully working.
When a motherboard or laptop maker stops updating its audio drivers, the best alternative is Realtek’s UAD package. It removes cleanly, has a single installer, retains the WHQL signature and sound returns on nearly any computer from recent times.
If Something Breaks
Setup is designed to self-repair: boot into Safe Mode (with or without networking) and reinstall the installer. This route fixes problems with drivers as well as rare Blue Screen of crash cases, which sometimes occur with unusual hardware.
When to Use the Force Updater
If Windows insists on replacing the generic driver with its own pick after a reboot, the included force updater overrides that choice. It is a targeted tool – use it only when the audio goes missing again after an update.
